Buttcoin is the memecoin version of Bitcoin.
Buttcoin is the memecoin version of Bitcoin. The idea of Buttcoin emerged in 2013 and was inspired by a 4:20‑minute YouTube video titled The Next Bitcoin? by James D. McMurray created two days after the launch of Dogecoin. In the video, Buttcoin was suggested as a joke to be a simpler, more approachable alternative to Bitcoin.
It wasn't until January 30, 2025 that the Buttcoin vision became a reality on Pump.Fun. The token was launched with a total supply of 1,000,000,000 Buttcoin. It is fully community‑owned with no central authority—much like Bitcoin and Dogecoin.
The logo for Buttcoin is the Bitcoin logo turned 90 degrees to look like a butt, and the name Buttcoin sounds like Bitcoin. Buttcoin is the next Bitcoin.
In the early days of Bitcoin, on May 22nd 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC to buy two pizzas in what is considered to be the first purchase using Bitcoin.
In honor of this, the first real‑world Buttcoin purchase took place on February 7th 2025 with a 10,000 BUTTCOIN transaction for pizza by user @orangelocke.
To use, trade, or hold Buttcoin tokens, you need a Solana‑compatible wallet. We recommend using the Phantom Wallet for its ease of use and robust security.
SOL is Solana's native token and is required to cover transaction fees on the network. It will also be what you use to purchase Buttcoin. Purchase SOL from a trusted exchange and transfer it to your wallet.
With your wallet set up and SOL in your account, you can swap SOL (or other cryptocurrencies) for Buttcoin. This can be done within Phantom or on a decentralized exchange like Jupiter.

"Buttcoin - The Next Bitcoin" is the meme version of Bitcoin. It was inspired by a joke from a 2013 video, and has since become a reality. Buttcoin is not meant to make fun of Bitcoin, quite the opposite. It is a fun tribute to a revolutionary technology that transformed the financial industry. It presents a simpler and more accessible take on Bitcoin’s complexities while honoring its legacy and the founding ideals of cryptocurrencies.
The term "Buttcoin" has long been used as crypto slander, particularly on communities like the r/buttcoin subreddit, where Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have been mocked since 2011. Buttcoin reclaims the name, turning it into an actual token and embracing the joke.
Buttcoin was launched on January 30, 2025, on Pump.Fun. It is a community‑owned memecoin built on the Solana blockchain.
Buttcoin has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens.
There is no central authority behind Buttcoin. Buttcoin is completely decentralized and a community coin, like BTC and Dogecoin. There is no official team on Buttcoin, but many members from the community are helping in different ways because they genuinely appreciate the meme and its humor. This means that you are free to support the Buttcoin community and the meme in any way you choose. Contributions from everyone are very welcome—we are all Buttoshi.
The idea for Buttcoin was sparked by a 4:20‑minute YouTube video from 2013 titled "The Next Bitcoin?" by James D. McMurray. The video satirically critiqued the complex technicalities of Bitcoin and joked that Buttcoin would be an alternative that more people would be able to understand.
Interestingly, Buttcoin’s roots stretch back to the same era as Dogecoin. Doge launched on December 6, 2013, and the video that sparked Buttcoin dropped just two days later, on December 8, 2013.
James D. McMurray, known in the community as Buttoshi, is the originator of the Buttcoin concept, introduced in his 2013 video, "The Next Bitcoin?" While he is aware of the token’s existence, he prefers to remain uninvolved, much like Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. His decision to stay in the background only adds to the intrigue surrounding Buttcoin, further cementing his status as a legendary figure within the community.
The Buttcoin logo is the Bitcoin symbol rotated by 90 degrees, giving it a distinctive twist that makes it resemble a butt. The name “Buttcoin” also plays on the similarity in sound to “Bitcoin,” reinforcing its homage to the original.
Buttcoin’s logo is a creative reinterpretation of the Bitcoin logo—it is the Bitcoin logo rotated by 90 degrees to give it a unique twist.
